oh god the shame
Apr. 7th, 2010 12:01 amI guess everyone already knows or will know about this soon. It has been said better by others than me, but I need to rant a little too.
Because honestly. It creeps in me, to see this mess, to watch that picture. Creeps with shame and disgust and self-loathing. To share a fandom with people who think that is okay. To like a series that even subtly alludes to a reading that this may be okay.
You don't fucking cosplay Germany and make the Nazi salute. Just don't.
I would say that you don't cosplay Prussia in his black costume either, at all. And yes, there are/were pics on cosplay.com. I felt literally sick when seeing them. Yes, I fangirl Hetalia madly. Yes, I laughed at 'Allo 'Allo and Springtime for Hitler. I still think that there are jokes you shouldn't make - not because anyone is "censoring" you, but because it's plain fucking human decency not to make them.
And even if you don't have the empathy to respect other people, HAVE THE FUCKING BRAINS TO THINK OF CONSEQUENCES FOR FIVE SECONDS
It's there, on the internet, this picture. It's there, it'll be spread, people saw it on-site. This is Hetalia fandom now, for those who only see one image which I'm sure will be widly discussed
And it's got the cosplayer's face attached to it, while it probably spreads over fandom_secret, fandom_wank, 4chan, who knows where... Your face, in a WWII uniform, doing a Nazi saluta. Juuuust spiffing
this is why I have a harddrive with bits of angsty, rambling, self-hating darkfics dealing with Ludwig and Gilbert. Because why do I like this when there are shits like this in my fandom? Why can't I stop - or at least stick to writing Denmark/Sweden porn or something more inoffensive
