Just a bookmark for myself
An anon posted a bunch of country related elements.
Now I'm curious what is so special about Ytterby...
ETA: Another useless linkbit - what LJ server are you on?
I'm apparantly on Bratwurst =D

Lending its name to a famous quarry where many rare earth minerals have been discovered, the small village has been the inspiration for naming four of the chemical elements: yttrium (Y), ytterbium (Yb), terbium (Tb) and erbium (Er).
Four other elements also trace their origin to the Ytterby quarry: gadolinium (Gd) (named after gadolinite, which is named after Professor Johan Gadolin), holmium (Ho) (from the Latin name for Stockholm), Scandium (Sc) and thulium (Tm) (Thule is an old Latin word for the Nordic countries).
Well, out of the 117 chemical elements currently in existence, eight originate in a tiny Swedish village with a weird name. I'd say that's pretty special.
By the way, did you get my e-mail? I was beginning to worry I'd sent it to the wrong address :(

Thank you for the reply. Haven't really looked at it yet but I will soon and send a proper reply then :)
