my life this week: workworkworkworkEYESHIELD!
Yeah. So.
This is a bit embarrasing, but I just got bit by another fandom
And it's a bloody Shonen Jump sports manga *facepalm*
At least people seem to agree that it's a surprisingly good Shonen Jump sports manga, and it had better be considering that the sport in question is American football - talk about something which has never interested me for three seconds ever.
But, you know? Hiruma who looks like the son of Satan and yet comes to trust his teammates and they, despite being shot at, screamed at, blackmailed... They go out on the field and fucking fight for him, even though it's hopless?
Sena, who starts out almost at Shinji Ikari's wimp-level (though not angst level thankyou) and then grows and stops whining at least 5 volumes before they usually do and he fights for his friends and himself and still can't win the game all by himself? Yeeeahhh. Those were my story-telling buttons you're pushing there, manga author
Not to mention the amazing friendship between Hiruma-Musashi-Kurita and some of the more interesting opponents...
Fuck, what HAPPENED? I know a thousand times less about american football than about history and if it's one thing this fandom doesn't seem to need, it's badly researched (and speller, urk, can you tell I've been digging around on the pit?) short fluffy fics.
Random note: Much to my surprise I found one place praising the amazing canon-ness of Hiruma & Mamori as an awesome couple 0.o Some quick research tells me that this must partly be influenced by the anime, because this series is really super low on romance of any kind. I mean, yes, she's looking at him sometimes and the other girl kinda flirts with Sena but the more the stakes are raised, the less time there are for girls. And her backstory is nonexistant - heck, they spend plenty more chapters fleshing out the chameleon guy than either of the girls.
So, while I'm not surprised that people ship them (there aren't exactly many other people around to hetship) I'm really surprised that they think they're so canon
Goodfic I've found - do give me a rec if you have something. Or *cough* doujinshi.
Five times Hiruma Yoichi left someone speechless (and one where he didn't)
Read the I'm a fucking genius, and I can't stop contradicting myself
Good stuff, both of them, though damned if "Ahiru" isn't one of the more messed up pairing names for a couple like that... Princess Tutu and Eyeshield do not go well together in my mind
I gave the anime a once-over too on Youtube, but it looks like mediocre animation and even more fillers than the manga (good God, some of the football games were ok, but a lot were just yawn, yeah yeah, can't Hiruma pull of a nice trick now so it can fucking END?), and the music wasn't overly awesome either.
I promise I won't even think about writing Eyeshild fic... Ok, sorry, already broke that one. I promise I won't start on anything until I'm done with at least the two current projects! One of which is a crossover, so I'd better get back to rereading that book now...
